Hot Docs Toronto

I received such a nice email from someone in the audience! Thank you Darren.

Hi there,
I just saw a screening of your film "Ferris Wheel Kid" that was shown at the Toronto Hot Docs Film Festival along with the film "A Different Kind of Boy." I absolutely loved both the films,

I have to say, you captured a moment that made me cry all afternoon. When the young brothers were saying good-bye, the younger brother says something like: "give me a kiss. No, a big kiss that will last so long until tomorrow comes." The audience in the theatre actually gasped all at once at the beauty of that moment. It was simply perfect.

Thank you so much for your film. I look forward to having the chance to see what other moments you've captured from this family's life.

Best Wishes from Toronto, Canada
Darren

'Louis The Ferris Wheel Kid' in competition for Best Short! at Hot Docs

Louis has always lived the carnival life. He and his family travel from fairground to fairground with their Ferris wheel, living life in constant motion. But when Louis becomes too old for the fairground classroom, he must move away from his family to attend school, leaving his little brother behind. This moving portrait examines the family unit and the unshakeable bonds of brotherly love. Amira Abdellahi

Young in Prison presents incarcerated children worldwide with a second chance. We focus on a successful reintegration in society by opening up new perspectives. Using creativity and sports we work on life skills, essential to connect to the existing social system. Role models are the living example that change is possible. They inspire with a positive attitude and an energetic approach. Simultaneously we work on sustainable mentality and policy changes, both in the direct environment of the youth and on a political level. All for a successful future in freedom.

So far he has lived his life between their mobile home, the ferris wheel and the mobile school. But soon his life will take a drastic turn. He graduates from the mobile school and will have to leave his family and his little brother for a boarding house in the city where he will attend high school.
