3 channel film Installation ‘I write this letter in bed’ 9 min. Edition of 5.

In 'I write This Letter in Bed' a love letter is central. An intimate letter about the doubts and feelings of Rocy, a young woman in China. She dreams of becoming a 'perfect woman', but we also hear her say: “Maybe I'm not confident enough yet. Maybe I should believe that the law binds us more than love.” Should she get married or not?

The installation places her in the context of the living environment, Chinese urban life. With her words, Rocy offers access to her head and heart and her struggle with the concept of love and marriage. The most individual in the midst of the overwhelming impersonality of the metropolis: the immense infrastructure, highways, corners and streets in which young Chinese live and work and love. You could also see the images of the urban jungle as a figure of speech, a metaphor for internalized confusion: which road do you take? In this context, how do you reconcile the intimate and contemporary with the traditions instilled? Rocy and her friends often fail to find that synthesis. Their existential despair is palpable in neon-lit karaoke bars. They lounge in a surrealistic vacuum, away from everything for nights on end.

The young woman reads out loud her letter to an undefined love - leaving the viewer in doubt to whom exactly the letter is addressed.
